It wasn’t just about safety — it was about freedom
Solo travel can be equally empowering and intimidating — especially as a woman, but some places don’t just feel safe… they feel sacred.
Here are my favourite:
Sri Lanka
This country wrapped me up like a welcome hug. Locals were warm, respectful, and helpful without being pushy. I watched elephants at sunrise, wandered through temples, and felt completely seen — not stared at. Sri Lanka feels soulful, earthy, and energetically kind.
Bali
Cliché? Maybe. Magical? Definitely. Bali is where I felt my soul. The community of solo women, spiritual seekers, and conscious travellers made me feel less like an outsider and more like a sister. From Ubud’s rice fields to Canggu cafés, I always felt safe — and often, deeply supported.
Hong Kong
Fast, sleek, and full of contrast — but surprisingly solo-friendly. The city is efficient, walkable, and respectful. I explored night markets, rooftop bars, and temples without once feeling uncomfortable. Glam meets grit in all the best ways.
I travelled to these places alone — but I never felt lonely.
Because if you trust yourself and honour your boundaries, the right places will honour you back. ![]()
Top Tip for Solo Female Travel:
Confidence is your best friend. Walk with purpose — even if you’re figuring it out as you go. Most people won’t question you if you don’t look lost.
Bonus Tip: Save your hotel address in Notes, drop a pin on Google Maps, and have a local phrase or two ready. It can go a long way, and apps like bilingual can really help.
Have you ever travelled solo? Where did you feel safest?
